Melisa shares the five core attributes of effective self-leadership for independent consultants, along with questions to help you evaluate and strengthen each area:
1. Visionary – defining a clear, long-term direction for your business and using it to guide decisions.
- Ask yourself: Do I have a clear picture of what my business will look like in three years? Do I use that vision to shape my decisions today?
2. Inspiring – fueling your own motivation so you keep moving forward even when results feel slow.
- Ask yourself: Am I generating my own energy and inspiration, or am I waiting for external validation?
3. Opportunity Generator – proactively creating growth instead of waiting for it.
- Ask yourself: Am I consistently creating opportunities for my business, or am I sitting back and waiting for them to show up?
4. Strategic – making deliberate choices that align with your bigger goals instead of getting lost in the urgent.
- Ask yourself: Do I make decisions through the lens of my long-term strategy, or am I operating in short-term, reactive mode?
5. Trustworthy – following through on commitments to yourself, not just to clients.
- Ask yourself: Can I count on myself to follow through on the things I said I would do for my business?
